SimplePractice's October 2026 insurance pricing change, explained for group practices

If your practice bills insurance through SimplePractice, your subscription price is not changing on October 1, 2026, but your real monthly bill is. SimplePractice is removing the free monthly claim allowance from every plan and moving to a flat per-claim fee, and it is raising the cost of eligibility checks on two of its three tiers. For a solo clinician filing a handful of claims a month, the difference is small. For a group practice filing hundreds of claims, it adds up fast.

Here is what is actually changing, who feels it most, what a 5-clinician group will pay for claims once the new pricing lands, and what to do before the change takes effect.

What changes on October 1, 2026

Four things change, all tied to insurance billing rather than the base subscription:

• No plan keeps a free claims allowance. Today, the Plus plan includes 35 free claims per month and Essential includes 10, while Starter has none. From October 1, every plan, including Plus, drops to zero included claims.
• Claims move to a flat $0.39 each, on every plan, regardless of tier. There is no volume discount published.
• Eligibility checks move to $0.15 each on Starter and Essential. Plus keeps free eligibility checks, but only until 2027, so that grace period is worth planning around rather than assuming it is permanent.
• A new paid upsell, Insurance Navigator, is priced at $1.79 per claim for practices that want it. It is an add-on on top of the new $0.39 per-claim rate, not a replacement for it.

None of this touches the Starter, Essential, or Plus subscription prices themselves, which stay at $49, $79, and $99 per month. The change is entirely in how claims and eligibility checks are billed once you use them.

Who it hits hardest

Plus groups that were relying on the 35 free claims per month lose the most in dollar terms, because that allowance was one of the plan’s main insurance-billing advantages over Essential. A 5-clinician Plus group with a typical caseload will go from filing its first 35 claims free every month to paying $0.39 on every claim from day one. Multiply that across a full month of claims for five clinicians and the free allowance was doing real work.

Essential groups already had a much smaller free allowance of 10 claims, so the claims change itself is a smaller jump in absolute terms. But Essential also loses free eligibility checks entirely, moving to $0.15 each, so a practice that runs an eligibility check for every client every month will notice that line item too.

Starter customers already paid per claim with no included allowance, so the practical change for them is narrower: the per-claim math simply continues, now at the same $0.39 rate every other tier pays.

The practices most exposed are group practices on Plus that bill a high volume of claims relative to their clinician count. That is exactly the profile most likely to be evaluating alternatives right now.

What a 5-clinician group will pay for claims

For a 5-clinician group filing 300 insurance claims a month, October 2026 claim costs are $117 on SimplePractice, $84 on TherapyNotes, $75 on Sessions Health, and $50 in overage on Mente360.
